Protest Staged Outside City Hall In Support Of Homeless Families In Cork

The protest is being staged by the Housing Action Group

City Council's homeless policy is victimising homeless families.

That's according to Cllr Diarmaid Ó Cadhla who was speaking at a Housing Action Group protest outside City Hall this morning.

The group campaigned for the closure of the Drinan street homeless facility, saying it was unfit for purpose, however they claim that users being re-directed to the new homeless service at City Hall are now being denied payment for emergency accommodation they source themselves.

The protest comes as figures from the Department of Housing show 373 adults were homeless in Cork last month, an increase of 10 people since November.

Speaking to RedFM News at this mornings protest, Cllr Diarmaid Ó Cadhla says the level of service has deteriorated since City Hall took over

RedFM News has requested a response on the issues raised by the Housing Action Group but we are still awaiting a response from the Housing and Community Directorate
