Public health outweighs jobs when it comes to cigarettes

A public health doctor says while job losses could be incurred as a result of plans to ban cigarette vending machines, public health has to come first.

Last week the Minister for Health confirmed that plans are in the pipeline to ban the machines in a bid to make Ireland tobacco free by 2025.

However the Irish Cigarette Machine Operators Association has hit out at the startegy and says 145 jobs are at risk nationwide.

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM Chairman of ASH Ireland Dr Patrick Doorley says job losses are an unfortunate consequence of the plans but public health has to be made a priority:
