Public More Interested In News This Year Than In 2020, New Report Finds

The Reuters Digital News Report found 70 per cent of Irish people said they were interested in news
While 53 per cent said they trusted the news, over half of respondents believed they couldn't trust sources they saw on social media.
The number of people paying for news also increased, with 16 per cent saying they have a subscription.
BAI Deputy Chief Executive, Celene Craig says people in Ireland have more interest in news than many other countries:
"The interest in news rose over the pandemic period. In fact, some 70% of Irish respondents said they were either extremely or very interested in news. That was an increase of five percentage points on the 2020 figures, and it's quite substantially ahead of the EU average which is only 60%, and indeed the UK average which is 51%."
