Public urged not to make any unnecessary journeys

That's the message from Cork County Council.
The Council have carried out an extensive operation to deal with the aftermath of Storm Emma.
Over the past 24 hours, 11 snow ploughs, 2 graders and 17 additional salt spreaders have been rolling out 300 tones of salt.
While all National Primary and Secondary routes have been made passable some rural and minor roads remain dangerous.
The Council is advising motorists to never assume a road is safe and to be aware of lying snow and ice as well as hidden potholes, while pedestrians are adivsed to take extreme caution on foothpaths.
Speaking to RedFM News, Director of Service for Roads with Cork County Council Tom Stritch says conditions vary across the county.
