Publicans Claiming Heavy Excise Taxes Are A Reason For Closure Of Cork Pubs

Publicans are claiming heavy excise taxes on alcohol are partly responsible for killing off a quarter of pubs in County Cork
There were 1,221 pubs in Cork in 2005. That number fell to 915 last year.
The Drinks Industry Group of Ireland says hundreds of jobs have been lost due to a 17 per cent drop in the number of pub businesses since 2005.
The group says rural areas lost a higher proportion of their pubs, with nearly 1,500 pubs around the country closing in a little over a decade.
