The figure was revealed as the City Council welcomed the formal announcement of the official visit of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall to Cork on Thursday
The City's Lord Mayor Cllr Tony Fitzgerald says the international profile o fthe the city ~skyrocketed" following the Queen's visit with interest in hotel rooms in the city and county increasing by up to 70%
Recent tourism figures show that a third of Cork's overseas visitors now come from the UK while Cork remains the second most popular holiday destination in the country for UK tourists behind Dublin.
It's hoped this week's visit by the Royal Couple will present another opportunity to showcase Cork on an international stage
