Rent certainty measures revealed
Cork Simon say they do little for those trying to access the private rental market.
A Cork charity for the homeless says new rent certainty measures are positive for those already in the private rental market but do little for those who are trying to access it.
The comments come as the government announced a series of reforms to the rental sector this afternoon.
For the renter there's a freeze in increases, longer notification of rent hikes or tenancy termination and legal requirements for landlords to tell them their rights.
While landlords will benefit from measures to deal with tenants in rent arrears and tax incentives to rent to those on social housing supports.
A one off initiative will also be put in place to increase the supply of more affordable starter homes in Cork and the capital.
Speaking to RedFM News, Cork Simon's Paul Sheehan says it's time for long term measures.
