Report into the lack of ambulance for Midleton toddler released

A HSE report into the death of a 2 year old boy in Midleton in Co Cork in May has found that Ambulance control personnel did not follow the correct procedure on receipt of a 999 call for an ambulance. This meant the child's condition was not correctly assessed. Vakaris Martinitis died from injuries sustained after he fell from an upstairs window at his home. A lack of ambulances in the area was not a factor in this case but rather the ambulance controller believed that if the child was taken to a GP he would get faster medical attention .. Speaking to Cork's RedFM Medical Director of the National Ambulance Service Dr Cathal O'Donnell says he has apologised to the family for what happened Press PLAY button above to listen to the audio
