Report shows over 50% of 9 year olds allowed to use the internet unsupervised

Over half of 9 year olds said they were allowed use the Internet without adult supervision.
That's according to a new ESRI Growing Up In Ireland report, which found more than two thirds of the children surveyed owned their own device.
The research conducted in 2018, found the most popular devices for 9 year olds were tablets or iPads, followed by smart phones.
Dr Eoin McNamara, co-lead author of the report, says playing games wasn't the only reason children used the Internet.
"Almost all children had access to the internet.
"The majority of them, over 60%, owned the device they used to spend time online.
"The most common sort of activities they were doing alone were playing games online, watching YouTube, and searching for information."
