Residents association calling on parents not to allow their children rent a house in the city this summer for partying

Magazine Road and surrounding residents say there is a strong demand for properties in their area for the summer months

They have called for action to be taken against "irresponsible" landlords who enter into any such rental agreement

A recent residents meeting heard from one landlady who says she is getting up to 12 calls a day from young people seeking to rent her property for the summer

Last summer residents say one house in their area hosted 17 parties and they will not stand for a repeat performance this year, particularly as the country is still in the grip of a global pandemic

Speaking to RedFM News Catherine Clancy of the Residents Association made this appeal to parent:

"These are not a young people who are in need of housing or here for essential services. They're literally been dropped off by their parents for the summer. And I just want to make a particular plea to those parents. They're the parents of our neighbouring parishes in Douglas, Rochestown, Ballincollig, you know, even Bishopstown, like what you're doing is wrong, and they would not like to see that happen in their community where they would have hundreds of students coming to their park for the summer."
