Residents fears over contraband addressed ahead of the opening of Cork's new prison

A media tour of the new facility is being conducted today
Cork's new prison is set to open next month...
The €38 million euro prison will house 275 inmates and the Irish Prison Service says it will have an overall capacity for 310 meaning that some cells will have two people in them.
The current capacity in the existing prison is 230, with approximately 200 inmates in the facility in recent days.
The prison is located next to the existing prison on Rathmore Road and has in-cell sanitation, meaning prisoners in Cork will no longer have to slop out
RedFM's Fiona O'Donovan is currently on a media tour of the new facility and she says residents concerns about security, in particular in relation to contraband, has been addressed ahead of the opening of the new prison
