Retail development given the go ahead in Ballyvolane

A multi-million euro retail development on the northside of the city has been given the green light by Cork County Council. The Fox and Hounds site in Ballyvolane has been selected for development which is expected to create hundreds of jobs during construction phase and beyond. The retail unit will house anchor tenant Tesco as well as a restaurant, a community building and six retail service units. The development however has split the community in Ballyvolane with concerns being expressed for the increased traffic flow, noise pollution and the threat to local wildlife on the site's local bog. Speaking to RedFM News County Councillor Ger Keohane says residents are objecting to the location not the development. Click the PLAY button above to hear.
