Revenue seize alcohol, cash, prohibited goods and tobacco products at a house in Cork City

The value of the seized alcohol and tobacco products is estimated at €6,600, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €4,500.

Revenue officers who carried out a search under warrant of a house on the north side of Cork city this morning have seized 155 litres of alcohol at different stages of production, along with various mixing and distilling equipment and over €6,000 in cash, which is suspected to be the proceeds of, or intended for use in, criminal activity.

This afternoon in Cork District Court, Judge Olann Kelleher granted a detention order in respect of the cash, to allow Revenue to investigate further.

During this morning's search, Revenue officers also seized 1kg of unstamped tobacco and 800 unstamped cigarettes and discovered 4 cans of Mace spray, a knuckle duster and products suspected to be injectable steroids and hormones, which were all removed by Gardaí.

Revenue officers questioned a Polish man in his 30s, and a prosecution file is being prepared.
