Rise In Crime In The City Blamed On Heroin Use

A significant rise in muggings and theft in the city centre is being blamed on the rise in the number of heroin addicts. That's according to gardai who have revealed they're concerned over the increase in such crimes. The Cork City Joint Policing Committee has been told that these crimes were up 41% between July and September compared with the same period last year. Gardai believe there was a direct link bewtween the increased use of heroin and the rise in muggings and theft - as addicts need to get money quickly to get their next fix. A special meeting of the policing commitee will be held on the 18th of November to discuss the heroin problem in the city.
