Rise In Number Of Couples Seeking Divorce

The number of people getting divorced is back to Celtic Tiger levels.

The figures from the Circuit Court show that over 4 thousand 100 proceedings were initiated last year, after they dropped to 3 thousand 300 in 2011.

The Law Society has told the Irish Independent that couples who split during the recession decided not to get divorced due to money issues.

Negative equity and unemployment were key factors, but a rise in house prices is thought to be making people reconsider.
