Rising rents in Cork force the break up of homeless families

Boys as young as 13 are being separated from their families in Cork after they become homeless, due to a lack of suitable accommodation. That's according to Focus Ireland Cork which says it's aware of teenagers being placed in foster care because of a lack of suitable, family-orientated emergency accommodation The housing charity says the homeless situation is at crisis point in the city and as a result some mothers and children under 12 are forced to go to one centre with fathers going to another, while teenage boys could end up in emergency foster care or a Garda station because of a lack of suitable accommodation. Focus Ireland is appealing to the Government to urgently raise rent supplements to stop families from losing their homes as they can't afford to pay the rent.
