Risk Of Pollution In Waterways Across Cork

Untreated waste water from seven towns and villages across Cork is entering rivers and bathing areas putting them at risk. That's according to the Environmental Protection Agency which says waste water from Ringaskiddy, Crosshaven, Carrigaline, Passage West, Monkstown, Youghal and Cobh is only being given minimal treatment before being pumped into seas and rivers. The EPA says it's found that waterways in 42 locations around the country are being put at risk of pollution because of the lack of waste water treatment plants. It's calling for more investment in infrastructure with over a quarter of large urban areas not meeting mandatory EU safety rules.
