Risk Supply Of New Secondary Teachers Entering Profession Will Be Hit Unless More Done For Student Teachers

That's one of the findings of a report into the finances of student teachers
Almost 35% of the 391 students who took part in a survey said they were in 'serious' or 'very serious' financial difficulty due to their teacher training.
44% of respondants also reported that they had considered leaving their post-graduation course.
Speaking to RedFM News, one of the authors of the report, Mark Prendergast from UCC says students have suggested many ways to solve the issues:
"The top three themes which were identified where: they should be paid for the teaching that they carry out while on placements, that the cost of the course should be lowered, and that there should be more government support in the form of bursaries and grants."
