RSA defend their road safety campaigns

The Road Safety Authority says last year their road safety campaigns are having an impact despite the rising in number of road

The group says one life lost on the roads is one life too many but the reality is that too many people are dying on Irish roads and they're working to reduce the number of road fatalities to ten a month in line with the Government's Road Safety strategy.

Three people have lost their lives on Cork roads so far this year, the latest fatality was a man in his 40s who was involved in a single vehicle incident near Garryvoe.

In total 33 people have lost their lives on Irish roads so far this year which is on par with figures from this time last year.

Speaking to RedFM News Brian Farrell of the Road Safety Authority says it's shocking that the aim is to only have 10 fatalities a month - but that's the stark reality of the situation on Irish roads:
