Cork city council have installed safety mesh along Patrick's Quay where a toddler fell into the river last Friday.

Four-year-old Caleb Watters managed to slip through railings near Brian Boru Bridge and fell up to 15ft into the River Lee.

He was rescued by Cobh mum of 13, Maria Foley, who appealed for the safer railings to be installed after the incident.

The plastic safety mesh has been added to the existing railings with cable ties and stretches from Brian Boru Bridge to Patrick’s Bridge.
