Save Cork City Group holds seminar on proposed flood defence scheme

The Save Cork City group has been discussing the proposed flood defence plans for the city is at a seminar in UCC today

Experts have been examining the archaeological, economic, social and heritage impact of the OPW scheme on Cork city.

The OPW says the €140 million scheme is compatible with Cork's distinctive character and will remove the constant flood threat that hangs over the city.

However the group is calling on the public to persuade the OPW not to construct flood defence walls on the citys' quays as they say it will damage the existing historic fabric of the city.

Speaking to RedFM News Minister with Responsibility for the OPW Sean Canney says the project has to stay within budget.
