Schools accused of bullying some parents into debt over uniforms

Barnardos is urging the Education Minister to ‘compel’ schools to engage with parents

Schools have been accused of ‘bullying and forcing’ parents to pay ‘extraordinary prices’ for uniforms for their children.

The harsh comments from Barnardos chief Fergus Finlay come after it was revealed that as many as 300-thousand children may need the back-to-school clothing and footwear allowance this year.

The children’s charity boss says the Education Minister must now ‘compel’ schools to engage with parents - who are paying up to 50 euro for school jumpers.

Barnardos Chief Fergus Finlay says thousands of families won’t get the back-to-school allowance - and should demand better treatment from their schools.
