Seven units of fire brigade battle blaze at historic Cork house

One unit of the fire brigade remains at Vernon Mount House after a blaze broke out in the historic building overnight.

The alarm was raised shortly after 9.30 last evening and the fire brigade including six units from Cork city, one unit from Mallow and one unit from Carrigaline attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is not yet known however an investigation is being launched.
The villa dates from 1784 and has appeared in the World Monuments Fund List of 100 Most Endangered Sites.
