Several routes impacted by heavy rain in Cork

Heavy downpours have led to excess surface water and spot flooding across the city and county.

Gardaí in Bandon say there is some flooding on the road outside Castlelack National School and the Duke's Wood area.

Elsewhere lots of surface water has been reported on the road from Naad to Lombardstown.

The main routes around Mallow are passable however the river is expected to burst it's banks shortly and that will cause flooding around the town.

Midleton Gardaí are advising care from on the dual carriageway between the Jack Lynch Tunnel and Midleton with spot flooding and a risk of aquaplaning.

The Carrigrohane Road is badly flooded this morning and the road at Muskerry Golf Club is impassable.

A tree was down earlier in Waterfall though Gardaí say that is being removed so caution advised in the area.

In general motorists are advised to stick to the main routes as a number of secondary routes are flooded and the rain is not expected to ease up until this afternoon.

A yellow wind alert is also in place until 4pm, with gusts of up to 100 kilometres an hour.
