Shortage of chefs across Cork

5000 chefs are required across the country annually however only 1800 qualified chefs were available this year
The Restaurants Association of Ireland have called for emergency measures to be implemented to solve the shortage of chefs across Cork City and county.
The RAI are calling for the re-establishment of the CERT training programme which provided a workforce for the Hotel, catering and tourism industry, but was abolished in 2003.
The organisation says 5,000 chefs are needed across the country annually but only 1,800 qualified chefs became available this year, so businesses are having to recruit in Eastern Europe.
Speaking to RedFM News Chief Executive of the Restaurant Association of Ireland Adrian Cummins says the hospitality sector needs leadership to solve the problem.
