SIPTU Call Potential Aer Lingus Redundancies At Cork And Shannon 'Extremely Worrying'
It's reported the airline plan to cut around 500 jobs
Up to 350 of the positions at risk could be in Cork and Shannon, with the viability of both airports being called into question as Aer Lingus carries out a review of its operations.
Losses at the airline are running 98 million euro in the three months to the end of June.
The news comes as management at Cork Airport call for a stimulus package to help it survive the fallout from COVID19.
Passenger numbers are down 95% on this time last year, and an estimated €23 million in revenue is expected to be lost by year-end.
Aer Lingus says redundancies will be on a voluntary basis if possible - but compulsory ones may be required.
SIPTU aviaiton sector organiser Neil McGowan says that wouldn't be acceptable:
