SIPTU members at County Council balloted for strike action
SIPTU members in Cork County Council are to be balloted for strike action this evening.
The Union says the dispute relates to the refusal of the council to engage in meaningful talks with workers on recruitment issues.
Council workers who look after road maintenance, housing and other essential services say they are seriously understaffed, and are frustrated the council have not acted on repeated calls to recruit more staff.
SIPTU say fears have been expressed that the lack of recruitment may be part of a wider agenda to increase the outsourcing of work to private companies.
Speaking to RedFM News SIPTU Organiser Con Casey says this outsourcing is in contravention to national agreements:
