SIPTU speak out about routing of Cork ambulances outside of Cork

SIPTU says the decision to route emergency calls out of Cork to Tallaght and Ballyshannon is putting lives at risk.

The union claims Cork based paramedics are in danger of burn out as ambulances are forced to respond to calls outside of their area.

The National Ambulance Service's control rooms were moved from Cork and Kerry four years ago which means that emergency operators must get the first available resource, no matter where in the country, to respond to a call out 

19,500 emergency calls were logged to the service from county Cork last year and 37% of the ambulances that responded to those calls were vehicles based in stations outside the area of the emergency
