Six business chambers in the south and west are calling for urgent action from the Government on air connectivity

They say international air connectivity is critical for the overall national economic recovery

The groups from Cork, Ennis, Galway, Limerick, Shannon and Tralee - which represent more than 2,700 members say there needs to be a clear roadmap for 'meaningful' levels of air travel to return

They say international air connectivity is critical for the overall national economic recovery and of huge importance to businesses in the region

The statement comes as Labour's Seán Sherlock pleaded with the Government to intervene to stave off job losses at Cork Airport in a special debate in the Dáil last evening. The Government say a further debate on aviation will take place next week

Speaking last evening Deputy Sherlock says he stands in support of the Aer Lingus workers

"What we want to see now is direct support for workers to stave off and stop those job losses in Cork, and Shannon, get the government to start subventing those jobs, keep them on the payroll and ensure that they can get through this period of turmoil, so that we can keep those jobs in the future, and save Aer Lingus airline"
