Special meeting in County Hall as city boundary row continues

A special meeting is getting underway in County Hall today in anticipation of a meeting with McKinnon Review implementation group tomorrow.
A number of County Councillors have expressed concern about the plans of the McKinnon Review to extend the city boundary to include areas like Cork Airport, Ballincollig, Blarney, Little Island, Glounthaune, Glanmire and Carrigtwohill.
In Ballincollig opposition to the plans is growing with two online petitions in circulation and door-to-door canvassing taking place.
Among the concerns of those in Ballincollig is the impact the plans will have on rates and on funding for initiatives like Tidy Towns.
The County Council has presented City Council with a counter proposal which recommends less of a boundary extension.
Meanwhile a poll in today's Irish Examiner showed 15 of Cork’s 22 senators and TDs oppose the recommendations of the Mackinnon report.
Speaking to RedFM News Ballincollig based Cllr Derry Canty says the poll proves the plan isn't feasible:
