Spotlight back on social housing in Cork

It's emerged that 468 social housing offers were turned down in Cork City in the past two years.

422 of the refusals were considered "unreasonable" by the housing department in City Hall.

The Irish Examiner reports that the refusal rate for offers of property have declined significantly since the introduction of the Choice Based Letting system in 2015.

Under the system if an applicant bids for a property and then turns it down their application is deferred for one year.

Meanwhile in the county calls are being made for increased funding to build public housing.

It recently emerged that the State provided Cork County Council with €21 million in 2016 to fund or acquire social housing units in the county - which is 33% of the funding provided in 2009.
