Stand off on Gratten Street between Irish Water and protesters

This is one of several anti-water charges protests in housing estates Leeside in recent weeks.

Irish Water personnel are being blocked access to stop cock valves by Gratten Street residents this morning.

This is the latest stand off in Cork between residents and Irish Water and comes after a high profile Cork campaigner was arrested yesterday in a Watergrasshill housing estate yesterday.

Brian Gould was part of a demonstration being held in Ard Cashel housing estate and following a special sitting of Mallow District Court was released on bail on condition that he stays out of the Watergrasshill area while Irish Water staff are in the vicinity.

He has since publicly pledged to continue protesting against the fee in other estates.

Elsewhere protests at the entrances to housing estates are continuing this morning on Gratten Street, in Glanmire, Curraheen and Watergrasshill.

Speaking to RedFM News this resident of Willow Gardens in Glanmire says the protests are becoming upsetting as they feel their right to peacefully assemble isn't being respected.
