State of emergency declared in Minneapolis after violent protests following the shooting of a black man

It happened not far from where George Floyd was killed last May.

Police say the officer who fatally wounded 20-year-old Daunte Wright was meant to draw a taser, and not a handgun.

Police chief Tim Gannon says he's assessed video footage: 

"This appears to me, from what I viewed, and the officers reaction in distress immediately after that this was an accidental discharge that resulted in the tragic death of Mr Wright."
