State spent €915m on PPE

€915 was spent by the State on personal protective equipment in 2020.
Three companies earned between €100m-€220m through contracts from the government for the items which include gloves, goggles and masks.
There was a global shortage of PPE last year at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
People Before Profit TD Gino Kenny obtained the figures - he says it is a "colassal" amount of money.
"This equipment was badly needed, government and public health services were outbidding each other to get hold of this PPE, it was well sought after.
"Questions must be asked as to why the HSE was so exposed in one way, another way is how much of the PPE was used, because there was an issue in relation to some PPE that was unusable in some medical settings."
