State urged to save Historical Cork House

The State has been urged to step in and save the remains of an historic Cork house which was destroyed by fire last weekend.

Vernon Mount House was gutted in a suspected arson attack on Sunday night and has led to calls for urgent action to save what remains of the house and salvage artefacts.

The Irish Georgian Society has called on the County Council to safeguard the building and plan for the future, to ensure it will continue to play a role as a unique Cork landmark.

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show Fianna Fail Councillor Terry Shannon says there were great plans for Vernon Mount House.
