Stigma surrounding suicide needs to be broke

It comes following HSE figures which show Cork has twice the national average of men self-harming

A Cork doctor says there's is still a lot of work to do in breaking the stigma around suicide.

Blackpool based GP, Dr John Sheehan made the comments in the wake of HSE figures which show that almost 400 men out of every 100,000 self-harm in Cork City - that's almost twice the national average.

Particular concern has been expressed for the North Lee area where rates of self-harm for both men and women are the highest.

Speaking to RedFM News Dr John Sheehan says talking about mental health is the key to breaking the stigma surrounding suicide.
