Student bar opening hours could be restricted by local authority

The proposal was discussed as a possible measure to tackle anti-social behaviour.
Cork City Council is considering restricting the opening hours of a student bar in a bid to curb anti-social behaviour among students.
The proposal discussed by the local authority includes limiting the opening hours of UCC's campus bars to 5pm instead of 12pm during Freshers' Week and Rag Week.
However, some councillors say these restrictions won't tackle the problem of anti-social behaviour but may send a strong message.
The conduct of UCC students has come into the spotlight in recent months with residents in the nearby area claiming they are subjected to noise late at night due to parties, litter thrown along the road as well as drunken students wandering onto the street.
Speaking to RedFM News, Liam Ronanye from the Connacht Avenue Residents Association says he doesn't think the knock on effects of anti-social behaviour is being considered by students.
