Students may be forced to defer their college course due to the housing shortage Leeside

Housing Charity Threshold says just over 700 properties are available for rent throughout Munster

The number of houses available is not enough to cope with the numbers looking for accommodation for the academic year.

Students who are lucky enough to get accommodation on campus are facing average bills of up to €6,000 a year however these figures almost double if they have to turn to the private rental market.

Meanwhile UCC students union are advising students to consider digs as alternative accommodation.

Speaking to RedFM News, Niall Horgan of Threshold says it will be very difficult for students to find accommodation in Cork City.
