SVP warning "perfect storm" of problems for families as pandemic supports and protections are removed

Households can have their electricity turned off from tomorrow, with SVP expressing its concern about the timing of the move with the Energy Regulator
The charity have accused the government of a lack of joined up thinking over the removal of the ban on energy disconnections and evictions and say the winding down of pandemic supports will create hardship for thousands of people.
Speaking to RedFM News, Gerry Garvey from SVP says the planned phasing out of pandemic supports in the final three months of the year could see some families struggling:
"Disconnections and evictions can start as you say, from tomorrow. And also coming in the same period, that the pandemic unemployment payments are going to start being phased out to come at a time, you know, over the next month or two when children are going back to school, you'll have uniform costs and book costs and all the normal things so there's a lot of stuff coming together, and whether we must acknowledge the Fantastic supports that were given to people over the last year. I'm not quite sure if they think he is really joined up when it comes to looking at the next couple of months, because people are going to be hit from all sides."
