Tanaiste Welcomes Outcome Of Department Of Enterprise, Trade & Employment's Supreme Court Appeal

Leo Varadkar says today's decision means the State can set minimum pay and conditions for certain sectors that are above the statutory minimum
He says f the pandemic has taught us anything, it's that we need to improve pay and conditions for our lower paid workers.
He adds that it places current and future sectoral employment orders on a firm footing.
Meanwhile, Unite has welcomed the ruling that Sectoral Employment Orders are constitutional.
In an initial response to the Supreme Court decision, the union says this provides a firm foundation to develop existing SEOs and establish additional ones - which will expand vital protections for workers.
It says Sectoral Employment Orders are crucial in ensuring decent work throughout the construction sector.
The business group, Ibec, acknowledged the validity of Sectoral Employment Orders has been confirmed after today's Supreme Court decision.
It says they remain an effective collective bargaining mechanism within the relevant sectors and that today's decision will provide important certainty for many businesses and workers where valid SEOs are in place.
