Taoiseach Says No Religious Ethos Will Have Influence Over New National Maternity Hospital

Opposition parties have called for the Government to consider a compulsory purchase order to buy the land the hospital will be on

Talks are ongoing with the St Vincent's Group and the Sisters of Charity about who will own the land and the hospital.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said there will be no question about services not being provided due to religious ethos:

"There will be influence by any religious ethos, particularly the Catholic Church or the Sisters Of Charity will have no influence: good, bad or indifferent, whatsoever, in terms of this National Maternity Hospital. They're very clear about that. But there is an ownership issue, I would put forward.
