Taoiseach To Meet With HSE In Next Hour To Discuss Mallow General Hospital

RedFM News revealed this week how staff at the hospital were told that the Medical Assessment Unit at the hospital was to close for at least four weeks

The INMO raised their concerns about the move warning that  it would put patients at risk.

Cork Fianna Fail TD James O'Connor has welcomed this evening's meeting and is hopeful of a positive outcome.

Speaking to RedFM News he says the temporary closure would have had a significant impact on hospital capacity in the Cork area:

"My understanding,  from speaking to officials within government, is that they are making every effort possible to prevent any temporary closure of any of the facilities within Mallow, given its strategic importance to, not only health within County Cork, but all over the province of Munster. My current understanding is that what had been spoken and proposed by by people yesterday and early this morning is not factually correct. We're expecting that we will hear later today, positive developments regarding the opening of facilities in Mallow."
