Taoiseach Very Confident Of No Religious Influence On New National Maternity Hospital

Politicians had been told this week the state tried to buy the hospital site in Dublin from the Sisters of Charity

But the religious order insists it has never "at any point" been contacted about the land being bought.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin says the hospital should be owned by the state:

"The key is, of course, that in terms of the hospital itself will serve the women of Ireland. It will not be in any way influenced by any religious ethos whatsoever. I'm very confident about that aspect of it."
