TD's call for inquiry into the Defence Force following shooting of cattle in Co. Monaghan

The animals were killed on a farm earlier this week - it's led to calls for a full investigation into what happened.

Sinn Féin says there are still serious questions to be answered as to why the army was called in to shoot five cattle as part of bankruptcy proceedings in Co Monaghan earlier in the week.

The animals were killed on a farm earlier this week - it's led to calls for a full investigation into what happened.

In the Dail the Independent TD Michael Healy Rae described those who ordered people "to pull the trigger" -  as a disgrace.

Others have questioned why efforts were not made to sedate the cattle so they could be easily captured as part of the bankruptcy proceedings.

It's been reported the animals had been suffering from Tuberculosis.

Sligo/Leitrim TD Martin Kenny says he doesn't believe lethal force was necessary to deal with the threat of TB.
