TDs to debate Civil Registration Amendment Bill
A bill that would give adopted people a legal right to a copy of their birth cert will go before the Dáil later.
TD's will debate Sinn Fein's Civil Registration Amendment Bill, which would provide for access to birth records.
The party's spokesperson on children, Kathleen Funchion, says it's particularly important for survivors of Mother and Baby Homes.
And she doesn't believe it'll impact on a birth mothers privacy.
"What this would do is give people access to a brith certificate, it doesn't actually give them contact information, or an address or where somebody is currently living.
"Obviously we would totally respect people's right to privacy, and some people do not want to be contacted and that's totally their right. However that cannot trump the right to your identify, and to at least know the day you were born, the time you were born, those very basic details."
