Tensions Mounting In Bandon Outside ABP Plant As Farmers Continue To Protest Over Beef Prices

Tensions are mounting in Bandon outside the ABP Plant as beef farmers continue to protest in a row over beef prices.

A group of Chinese inspectors are in Ireland for a fortnight to visit 16 meat plants across the country in a move that's hoped will lead to an increase in beef exports to Beijing, today they're due to visit Bandon.

Talks between management at the ABP Plant in Bandon and an Independent Arbitrator broke down yesterday as no compromise was reached to allow the chinese delegation in the factory.

Meanwhile protesting farmers say tension is mounting, and they claim offal was placed close to them this week.

In a statement issued to RedFM News, ABP say it is not appropriate for them to comment on "issues that are of a commercially sensitive nature particularly when pickets are preventing cattle entering the ABP Bandon site".

The Beef Plan Movement who initiated the protests weeks ago have moved to distance themselves from these particular protests but they are monitoring developments and their member Gerard Dineen, who is not attending the protests, told RedFM News a compromise could have been reached to avoid protests today while the Chinese are there:
