The Cork Branch Of The Irish Nurses And Midwives Organisation Say They're Fearful Of The Coming Winter

It follows concerns that hospital overcrowding could reach record levels due to a lack of bed capacity

The Cork branch of the Irish Nurses and midwives organisation say they're fearful of what their members will face this winter.

It follows concerns that hospital overcrowding could reach record levels due to a lack of bed capacity, the failure to retain nursing staff as well as the annual bump in patient numbers associated with the vomiting bug and an increase in slips, trips and falls.

Nurses and Midwives staged a lunchtime protest at Cork University Hospital last month calling on the HSE to hire more nurses and to implement a plan for the predicted surge in patient numbers this winter.

Speaking to RedFM News, Liam Conway from the INMO in Cork says significant investment is needed to ease the crisis.
