The dockyard in Passage West is central to the re-development and future of the town

The County Council is being urged to develop a master plan for the town up to and including a compulsory purchase order for the docks

Sinn Fein TD  Donnchadh O'Laoghaire has expressed his dismay after it emerged that the Council returned a grant of almost €1.9m for the proposed redevelopment of the docks at Passage West

The plans hit a stumbling block in early 2019 when the dockyard was taken off the market

Speaking to RedFM News Deputy Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire says the Council need to come up with an alternative re-development plan to deliver a new future for the town

" The redevelopment of the docklands area there - it's a big eight acre site right in the middle of the town. The large wall there I think closes off  big parts of the town from the water. I think that that if that can be opened up, it can really make the town thrive even more. And I think it would be hugely beneficial so I'm urging the County Council not to let this go. The grant has been handed back that's really really disappointing, I have to say it's a big sum of money. I think that they should have kept pursuing this but another route needs to be found now"
