The homeless crisis Leeside will not be solved with the return of bedsit accommodation

That's according to housing charity Threshold who say it's worrying that almost a decade after the elimination of the bedsit as an acceptable form of accommodation, the Housing Minister is considering its reintroduction

Bedsits were eliminated in 2009 following the introduction of regulations to remove sub standard accommodation where tenants had to share bathrooms and cooking facilities.

Threshold are calling on Minister Eoghan Murphy to tackle the issue of sub standard existing accommodation instead of a return to bedsit-type apartments in an effort to ease the housing crisis across the city and county.

Speaking to RedFM News Cork manager of Threshold Niall Horgan says bedsits are not the solution to the problem.
