The Number Of Women Dependent On Codeine And Cocaine In Cork Is On The Rise

That's according to the Cuan Mhuire treatment centre for women
Addiction counsellors at the treatment centre Farnanes say the rise in the abuse of cocaine has been noted since the end of the recession
The counsellors say that worryingly they are also seeing cases of women addicted to crack cocaine
The highs from crack cocaine are short lived resulting in the drug becoming highly addictive as users try to recreate the high from the drug
Up to 10 women who were hooked on crack cocaine have sought treatment at the centre this year, compared with none previously
Michael Guerin, who is a counsellor at Cuan Mhuire told the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM that some of the women they are treating for codeine abuse have been taking up to 90 tablets a day
